Dr Kate Leonard

My name is Dr Kate Leonard and I qualified as a clinical psychologist in 2007. I am registered with the Health Care Professionals Council. I have extensive NHS experience, having worked in the NHS for 23 years before moving to work solely in independent practice in 2023.

In the NHS, I was clinical lead for an NHS Autism Diagnostic Service for adults from 2012 until 2023.  Now, I provide ADHD and autism assessment in private practice.  I am trained in using the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults, as well as a number of other diagnostic tools to support my clinical decision-making.

My clinical experience has been focused on helping people to understand themselves through exploring their strengths and assets, as well as their struggles.  This is an important step in being able to recognise what they need to help them thrive and cope in a world which does not always embrace difference.  I understand that individuals can be anxious about attending assessments and I am skilled at being able to engage people and help them feel comfortable enough to share their experiences.  Often, people I have seen are also seeking an assessment to help them access further support at work or in education.

I also have a wealth of experience at assessing and diagnosing autism, which often co-occurs with ADHD and have a particular interest in how the traits of both may combine and influence each other.

the University of Chester as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 2011 and has been
practicing for the majority of his career in the NHS, working with adult patients with
varying mental health diagnoses. His interest in ADHD began whilst working with
those in contact with the criminal justice system. Stephen has worked in an adult
ADHD service since 2022 completing ADHD assessments and supporting patient
treatment plans. He completed his Non-medical Prescribing qualification at Edge Hill
University in 2023 under the stewardship of Dr Joe Johnson and has been practicing

ADHD services.

Sean Nicol

Specialist Nurse Practitioner

Sean has worked as a Specialist Nurse Practitioner and an Independent Nurse Prescriber since joining an NHS Adult ADHD Service in 2018 and has acquired extensive experience in the private sector. He previously worked in secondary care mental health services, both as a care co-ordinator in a community mental health team, and later worked in a mental health assessment team in a specialist role with the homeless and vulnerable.
Sean completed his prescribing qualification at Edge Hill University in early 2018 and gained valuable experience working with a range of mental health disorders exacerbated by social adversity. It was during his work with the homeless that he witnessed first-hand the social impact of untreated ADHD and missed diagnosis, and became intrigued after seeing the positive impact that ADHD medication could have, following some joint work with the local Adult ADHD team.
Sean did not hesitate when he got the opportunity to work full-time with the Adult ADHD Service in November 2018, where he has been mentored by one of the UK’s leading figures in this field. Sean is committed to delivering comprehensive assessment and treatment for adults with ADHD, with the goal of helping individuals achieve meaningful improvements in daily functioning and symptom management.
